The Newton Revitalization Group held their 4th meeting last night!

We have discussed and are working toward the following things:

Downtown Mural Project This is an effort to beautify the downtown buildings by adding murals and touching up existing murals. All artists will sign a contract and all business owners will comply with just a few rules such as “protecting artists work, social sharing and keeping the integrity of the artist’s vision” If you are interested in your business having a mural, please message this group and or contact Meredith Todd Love or Tina Barrow

Community Garden Project We are in the very beginning phases of researching where and how to implement a community garden that will potentially teach adults and children how to garden. We have a few leads on plots of land but have many things to consider. If you have any expertise in gardening, have done something like this before OR know of places we could put a garden, message Frida Dillenbeck or Margaret Fowler

Downtown Planter boxesWe would like to have planter boxes in front of existing businesses around the square. You may have seen things like this in other small towns. We are working with the school district to have student groups maintain the plants (water them) and even build some of the planters. If you are interested in helping with this endeavor, please contact Kristi Collins Staley or Meredith Todd Love

Touch A Truck Family Event We are working on a fun family friendly event and need all the vehicles, machines, tractors etc that we can get! AmbulanceFire truckPolice carCranesDump trucks Tractors Electricity trucksWe highly encourage all heavy equipment businesses to join in helping us pull this off. The event will be free. Children will be able to see big trucks and equipment close up and parents will be encouraged to take pictures We haven’t decided on having food or drink trucks available but that could be a possibility. If you are interested in helping or know of a business we can contact, message Meredith Todd Love or Courtney Michelle Lott

General downtown clean up days- we are working on some dates to gather and clean up trash and other debris.

Chamber of a Commerce - we are working on recreating a Chamber of Commerce. Raquel Delcambre Foster is diligently spearheading this. She is also applying for our group to be a non-profit status and we will soon be able to take donations for future endeavors.

Frida Dillenbeck has joined the Keep Texas Beautiful organization and we have had a visit from a representative from the Texas Downtown Association.

Things take time but we wanted you all to know our group is really working hard to bring back pride and community fellowship to Newton.

We welcome anyone to come to our meetings and join us in our efforts.

The next meeting is July 205:30 PMCity Hall
