Commissioner Powell’s Update on Dead Trees

Dead trees have become a serious issue, and they are literally everywhere. By state law my team can only cut trees that are within the “right of way” and or those that are presenting an immediate threat to motorists. Several weeks ago I placed an agenda item on Commissioners Court asking that DETCOG help with financial aid for the removal of these dangerous trees, we have not received any positive response yet. I am also communicating with JENCO regarding this matter, they relayed that they have three full time crews dedicated to the removal of dead trees that are presenting a threat to power lines. If you have a tree near a power line please contact JENCO, if you know of a tree that is at immediate risk of falling on a county road please contact my office.
