26-year-old Jadarian Lee of Kirbyville is standing trial this week in Jasper for the March 2023 shooting death of 21-year-old Chase Butler of Newton.
As we reported last year, Lee is accused of shooting Butler in the head at the Buster Parker residence on County Road 420 in Kirbyville. Lee, who showed up uninvited, was confronted by Vic Gilbert at the residence. Lee fired one shot from his weapon, fatality striking Butler in the head.
Lee was initially charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Possession of Marijuana. Since that time however, Lee's charges were downgraded to that of Manslaughter.
Lee is represented by Center Defense Attorney Stephen Shires in the trial which is being heard by State District Judge Craig Mixson at the Jasper County Courthouse. Assistant District Attorney Jennie Hyatt is the prosecutor in the case.
