Press Release on Burn Ban
Newton County Constables Colton Havard, Howie Wonders and Sonny White have implemented a zero-tolerance policy on subjects violating Newton County’s Burn Ban. Anyone found burning while the court ordered county wide burn ban is in place will be cited accordingly. There are numerous signs, news media and social media posts notifying the citizens a burn ban is in effect.
Due to the extreme drought conditions a burn ban was put in effect by the Commissioner’s Court on July 26, 2023. From what we have noticed even with the burn ban, people have ignored the dangers of outdoor burning. These fires are becoming out of control, and we don't want to risk personal property damage or loss of life.
Our rural volunteer fire departments respond to these emergencies and leave their regular jobs and families behind, and a lot of times utilize their personal equipment to save life and property.
We appreciate you taking this matter seriously and if we can help, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Contact information is below if you have any questions or concerns.
