UPDATE & CLARIFIED: At the Newton County Republican Club (NCRC) meeting on Friday, July 21st, 2023, the Newton County Republican Party (NCRP) reported that its Executive Committee had unanimously approved a resolution condemning Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan for his failure to adhere to Texas GOP core principles and legislative priorities. The resolution also supports the recent "censure resolution" approved by the Orange County Republican Party.
The NCRP voted to "condemn" and not "censure" the Speaker because they are not in Dade Phelan's House District 21. Only counties in Texas House District 21 can vote to censure.

The Newton County Republican Club (NCRC) met at noon on Friday, in their monthly gathering at the Hughes Center.
The Newton County Party (NRCP) decided to show support for the Orange County Republican Club in their censuring Speaker of the House Dade Phelan earlier in the month, due to his recent actions. The NCRC voted on a resolution to "condemn Dade Phelan" in support of that "censure" which is also being pursued by other Republican Clubs throughout District 21. The NCRP could only "condemn" and not "censure" the Speaker because they are not part of his voting district.
The group listened to two keynote speakers: Frida Dillenbeck, of Newton Revitalization Group (NRG) & Jourdan Hartshorn, with the Newton County Emergency Response Management.
Dillenbeck spoke about NRG progress, upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. NRG's next scheduled meeting is 5:30p.m. August 1st at the History Center.
Hartshorn spoke about Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) representatives being placed in counties all across Texas and the resources they can provide to the citizens.
