NEWTON COUNTY, TX-
Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard announced Thursday that Newton County Sheriff's Office will be joining the ICE 287(g) program. This program was created to assist in the enforcement of immigration laws.
By joining the program, Deputies will be authorized to serve immigration warrants on those in the country illegally and who have been arrested in the county, regardless of the arresting agency.
Partnering with ICE enhances public safety through the deportation of individuals who are in our country illegally.
Havard said, "As your Sheriff, I will always take proactive measures to ensure that Newton County does not become a haven for criminals or violent illegal immigrants. I will also do my part to assist our state and federal partners in ensuring public safety in Texas".
