Calls To Service (July 1, 2024, to July 7, 2024):  The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 61 calls to service.

Jail Transports: NCSO had 3 jail transports;

1 from Gist Unit to NCSO, 2 from NCSO to JCSO.

Jail Population:   We currently have 20 inmates in the following jails;

8 housed in Newton, 8 housed in Beauregard, and 4 housed in Jasper.

The following individuals were booked into the Newton County Jail:

Chaudoin, Jaret C Michael 07/01/24 F* Bench Warrant

Sowell, Richard Brent 07/01/24 F3 Probation Violation (DWI 3rd or More)

Barrett, Thomas Wayne 07/03/24 F* Bench Warrant

The following calls and reports were received by NCSO: 

Mauriceville: Assist Other Agency-Orange County: NCSO assisted Orange County S.O. in a high-speed pursuit on July 5, 2024, which began at Hwy 87 and Hwy 12 westbound. K-9 Jack and Deputy Nash conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of chunks of a white substance, which was tested for Methamphetamine. The test kit gave a positive result. All the chunks had a combined weight of 7 Grams. DPS took custody of the evidence and the driver. Great teamwork between DPS and Newton/Orange Counties.

Newton (Unincorporated Limits): Trespassing, Alarm, Harassment, Officer Assist x 2, Civil Matter, Disturbance, Theft

Burkeville: Welfare Concern x 3, Trespassing, Accident/ Possible, Burglary, Officer Assist

Toledo Bend: Alarm, Noise Complaint

Call: Welfare Concern

Scrapping Valley: Disturbance

Shankleville: Animal Nuisance

Wiergate: Missing Person (located)

Liberty: Officer Assist

Bleakwood: Reckless Driving, Disabled Vehicle

Pine Grove: Officer Assist, Animal Nuisance x 2
