Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard has initiated a 'door hanger' program within the County. It is intended to let the public know that those areas are being monitored frequently.
Havard said, "Deputies periodically conduct business and residential checks throughout their shifts. Many times, deputies check residences and businesses without anyone knowing. I have equipped our deputies with 'door hangers' to be placed at businesses, informing our residents that those businesses and areas will be actively monitored with extra patrols."
While the number of businesses in Newton County is small, the ones there will be closely monitored to ensure they do not have to close their doors due to criminal activity.
Havard added, "Lastly, I appreciate the team we have at NCSO for being proactive and serving our communities."
