Newton Sheriff Colton Havard in high speed pursuit Monday evening and he got his man!

Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard was on patrol northbound on Hwy 87 Monday at 6:43 pm when he noticed the driver of a blue and white Suzuki GSXR 1000 committing several traffic violations in the Bleakwood area.

Havard attempted to stop the motorcycle but the operator refused to stop, which initiated a high speed chase. Soon, a Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy, and a Newton Police Officer soon joined in the pursuit.

Once the motorcyclist reached the intersection of SH 87 and US 190 in Newton, he turned west onto US 190, continuing to evade law enforcement at speeds over 120 mph. One he reached the intersection of US 190 and SH 63 in Jasper, the suspect surrendered without further incident.

The motorcyclist, identified as Alexander Jose Gonzalez-Diaz, was arrested and transported to the Newton County Jail. He was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle.

Gonzalez-Diaz is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
