At 6 am this morning, a crew of Newton Volunteer Firefighters headed out with several 20 ft trailers to North Carolina to help the disaster victims.
Newton VFD Captain Melanie Smith said, "We had a few that left (yesterday) by POV to get a head start and a few of us have to stay behind to tend to business.
Please keep all of them in prayers as they travel to deliver supplies and get some boots on the ground to lend a hand where needed".
This is in response to last months deadly Hurricane Helena.
Smith continued, "You know, there is a lot that goes into a deployment. It takes lots of planning, tons of phone calls and a huge amount of donations by good people who never ask to be recognized but we're going to do our best. Thank you to all who donated....no matter if it was time, money, supplies are prayers. It was all needed and appreciated. I can't name everyone who helped but no donation was to small or not noticed. But I'm going to acknowledge who I can. Thank you all again for making our deployment possible and God bless!"
