Wanted suspect captured following burglary

Released by:  Sheriff Robert Burby

Update: Burglary of a Vehicle Call on Wednesday, March 27, 20024

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, we responded to a Burglary of Vehicle in the vicinity of Big Cow Creek Bridge on Hwy 87 South.

The victim advised that the suspect fled into the nearby wooded area. A search was conducted with Blood Hounds who responded from Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office to assist. A trek of the area was conducted with negative results.

After the suspect’s description was released, we received information from the public that led to the identity and location of the suspect. We located the suspect on CR 4001 and interviewed him regarding this incident. We later obtained an Arrest Warrant for the suspect

who is identified as 26-year-old Corey McCarver from Louisiana.

McCarver was arrested on April 4, 2024, on CR 4001 in Newton, and charged with the following charges:

2 Counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon a second-degree Felony. His total bond is $100,000.00.

The weapons charge was added because McCarver pointed a firearm at the two witnesses who identified him. The owner of the vehicle had to provide us with a complaint statement before we can charge him with burglary of a vehicle. Additional charges are expected.

This is still an active investigation that will certainly result in additional charges.

We want to extend our appreciation to the citizens who saw something and said something. A huge thanks to Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office who responded and brought Blood Hounds and

a Drone with a support team.
