Sometimes, the most meaningful moments happen when no one is looking — or expecting recognition.
Keith Long, a local resident, recently shared a heartfelt story of appreciation for Floyd Singletary of the Trout Creek Volunteer Fire Department. What started as a routine stop for gas and snacks turned into a lasting memory for Long’s three sons — thanks to an unexpected gesture.
While chatting with the cashier at Dee’s in Trout Creek, Singletary spotted the boys and offered them a special opportunity: a tour of the fire station. The Long family followed him over, where Singletary gave the kids a personal walkthrough of the fire trucks and explained how the equipment is used in emergencies.
“He didn’t have to take time out of his day, but he did,” Long wrote. “And I am very thankful for his act of kindness and his willingness to inspire a younger generation.”
Singletary’s small gesture left a big impression — not only on the Long family, but as a reflection of the spirit behind volunteer service. The Trout Creek Volunteer Fire Department continues to play a vital role in the community, both in emergency response and in moments like these.
From the Long family and from all of us — thank you, Mr. Floyd, for your dedication and kindness.
