NEWTON COUNTY, TX- On August 13th of last year, the Newton County Sheriff's Office received a report of a child who had been sexually assaulted within the County.
During the investigation, it was determined that enough probable cause existed in the case to charge 35-year-old Jonathan Gregory Alvarez of Buna with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.
In January of this year, the Newton County Sheriff's Office began searching for Alvarez, who was believed to be staying in DeQuincy, Louisiana.
Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard said, "Due to Alvarez living out of state, we began collaborating with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office and the United States Marshal's Service to apprehend him. On April 30, 2025, Alvarez was arrested in DeQuincy and transported to the Calcasieu Parish Jail."
On May 23rd, Alvarez was finally extradited back to Newton and is being housed in the County Jail.
Alvarez has officially been charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, and has a bond of $150,000.
