Chevrolet Strikes Truck During Unsafe Pass

NEWTON COUNTY – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a crash on Farm-to-Market Road 692, near Recreational Road 255, that occurred Sunday, July 27, 2025.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 4:59 p.m., a Ford F-150 was traveling south, followed by a Chevrolet SUV. It is reported that the driver of Chevrolet attempted to pass the Ford but did so when unsafe and jerked the steering wheel back to the right, to avoid a collision with a vehicle traveling northbound, and struck the Ford on its back left.

The driver of the Ford, identified as 42-year-old Jessee Leach of Burkeville, was not injured.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 32-year-old Jesus Moreno of Beaumont, and two child passengers were not injured. One adult passenger was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Moreno was cited for passing when unsafe.
