NEWTON — Newton Independent School District has been awarded $18,221.84 through the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, officials announced this week.
The grant will allow the district to provide students with more access to fresh fruits and vegetables, while also supporting Texas agriculture producers.

“Thank you, Texas Department of Agriculture, for the generous grant to ensure that fresh fruits and vegetables are offered to our students,” the district said in a statement. “We are sure that the benefits of eating healthy through this program will lead to the overall success of our students.”
