Pasture Fire Ignites Near Grace Bible Church in Newton County

NEWTON COUNTY — On Tuesday afternoon, Newton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a pasture fire along Highway 87 North, directly across from Grace Bible Church. According to the department, the fire scorched approximately one acre and was caused by an unattended debris pile.


Newton Volunteer Fire department said in a statement on Facebook:

“About 2:00 p.m. Newton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a pasture fire on Highway 87 North across from Grace Bible Church. Approximately 1 acre burnt.

Cause of Fire… Debris pile that was left unattended.

Three trucks and eight fireman responded.


Please use caution when burning as our area is getting very dry. The small rains are more hindrance than help.

Also, we ask that you notify the sheriff’s department of any significant control burns that you may be having.”
