Newton High School kicked-off Red Ribbon Week with Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Shana Clark.
Clark gave students a simulation of "Walking the Line" if suspected of driving under the influence. She also provided students with information on how the law applies to high school students who are 17 years of age or older.
In a Facebook post, the school released this statement. "This learning simulation was the perfect start to a week filled with positive awareness activities for our students, and we thank Sgt. Clark for her service."
Sgt Clark said, "This was a great turnout and I appreciate Newton ISD Police Chief Lewis for including DPS on Day 1 of Red Ribbon Week. It's an important week and allows us the opportunity to have a conversation with the students and raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of drug and alcohol abuse."
