Deweyville, Texas – A routine traffic stop in Deweyville late Saturday night led to the recovery of a stolen UTV and the arrest of two individuals.
On September 20, 2025, at approximately 10:38 p.m., Deputy B. Sonnier of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling near the intersection of Spur 272 and County Road 4141 when he stopped a Honda Pioneer UTV traveling on a public roadway.
The occupants were identified as Dean Daugherty and Brandi Wilson. A check of the vehicle’s VIN number revealed the UTV had been reported stolen out of Jasper County.
Deputy Sonnier placed Daugherty under arrest for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. As he was being taken into custody, Wilson fled the scene on foot. After a short chase, Wilson was apprehended but actively resisted arrest by pulling away from the deputy.
Both suspects were ultimately transported to the Newton County Jail.
Daugherty faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Wilson has been charged with evading arrest or detention and resisting arrest, search, or transport.
Sheriff Colton Havard praised the deputy’s work, noting that quick action not only led to the recovery of stolen property but also prevented further criminal activity.
